The Danger of Self-Help Books

Most of self-help is about emotional skills, and emotional skills are simple yet difficult things to learn, because knowledge alone is not enough to truly learn.

This kind of “learning” of continuous reading can feel like progress, and thus very rewarding—without actually being progress. But since it feels good, we stay away from the thing that actually creates progress: action.

The trial and error; actually using what you just “learned”.

True learning.

Progress.

Don’t be afraid of the books. Just don’t get lost in the endless loop of mental masturbation. No matter how satisfying it feels, you will never get far without action.

And you’ll never find that from a book.
