Actions define values, not words

When you announce or write down your values, what you’re really saying is you would want these to be your values.

They might be. But what you do reveals the truth.

You say you value family, but work late—again. You value work.
You say you value health, but eat the bag of chips because “you’ve earned it”. You value comfort.
You say you value freedom, but aren’t ready to quit your job to start that business. You value safety.

If you want to figure out what your values are, follow what you do.

If you’re not happy with the reality, don’t try to think better values.

Think better actions.
